There are so many Calls to Action since January 20th that my head is spinning and fatigue and confusion are of real concern. I watched a feel good movie last night simply because I desperately needed a break from the intensity. One of the premises of the story was we cannot caretake if we don’t take care of one’s self first. We are in serious caretaking mode of our Democracy, and it’s Constitution. We need to take our self-care seriously. Take at least one day a week off from the news, which likely means all of our social media addictions as well.
One of the many calls to action that I have seen includes creating a personal rapid response team within your family, friends, community. Sharing current actions with one another, cutting through the noise to determine what to do next, holding one accountable to acting and having someone see you and say ‘hey, it’s time for you to take a day off,’ can all be a part of your team’s goals.
Hopefully, by now, you have your Legislators phone numbers handy, already in your phone or close at hand for daily action.
Here is a tip (Thanks, Ashley!) for those whose voicemails are full:
Fax your Senators: https://faxzero.com/fax_senate.php
Fax your Congress Reps: https://faxzero.com/fax_congress.php
You can send up to 5 faxes a day for free (each fax can have up to 3 pages + a cover letter.)

RE: Executive Order halting all refugee admissions and barring people from many predominantly Muslim countries from entering the United States.
There’s no reason that the Senate should be conducting business as usual while our basic values are under attack. Senators have powerful tools to delay and stop legislation, and they should be using them. This isn’t about speeches or nice tweets—this is about political hardball.
1. Withhold Consent. Any single Senator can ‘withhold consent’—a procedural maneuver that puts Senate business on pause for days at a time. When Senate Leadership asks for “unanimous consent” to move forward with business as usual, your Senator should say “I Object.” This will dramatically slow Trump’s other priorities from moving forward until he lifts this odious ban. #WithholdConsent
2. No Justice, No Bills. Your Senator should commit to filibustering EVERY bill that comes up in the Senate until Trump’s illegal, unconstitutional Executive Order is rescinded. By filibustering, your senator can stop all of Trump’s future legislative priorities. The ONLY bill that should be allowed to come to a vote is a bill ending the Muslim and refugee ban. #NoJusticeNoBills

RE: Executive Order regarding the elevation of Steve Bannon to the National Security Council
Here’s a script for calling/writing/faxing (adjust as necessary – see links for free faxing senators/representatives above.)
Hello, I am NAME, a resident of ZIPCODE, and one of your constituents. I am very concerned about the executive order President Trump signed this last weekend elevating White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon as a permanent member of the National Security Council while minimizing the role of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Director of National Intelligence. This will, in effect, shut Gen. Joseph Dunford out of critical meetings, and it will also grant Steve Bannon unprecedented power and control over the executive branch.
This order is circumventing established law. According to section (a)(6) of federal statute 50 U.S. Code 3021, a civilian like Steve Bannon will, in fact, need to go through Senate confirmation and approval to serve on the National Security Council because he doesn’t fit into any of the five listed pre-approved categories.
First, I am asking SENATOR join with Senator John McCain in speaking out against this executive order immediately. Second, I am asking that SENATOR immediately call for a cessation of all of Steve Bannon’s activities on the National Security Council until he is approved by the Senate. And finally, I am demanding that SENATOR vote NO to approving Steve Bannon’s placement on the National Security Council.
